Harriet Oberlander
At age 93, Harriet Oberlander passed away June 13th in Renton, Washington. She was born in Lowell, Washington to Albert and Hilda Staeber, and is survived by son James, daughter Diane (Jay) Jahnke and two grandchildren, Jaime and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Raymond. Harriet retired after 37 years with Boeing in 1982 and enjoyed traveling, dancing and music. She was a resident of the Fauntleroy area for many years prior to moving to Renton. Donations can be made in Harriet’s memory to the American Heart Association.
It is hard to lose a mother. It will take time. Remembering the good times helps. The sisters Arlene, Dorothy, and Harriet are now together and forever young and beautiful.
I have many great memories of all the Thanksgivings and Christmas we spent with Aunt Harriet and Uncle Ray.

I am very thankful to have been a part of Harriet’s family. I have many fond memories of Thanksgivings, Christmases, and trips to Hawaii and Eastern Washington. She will live on in our hearts and these precious memories.
There are countless memories I have of my Grandmother, everything from family time during the holidays to Mariners baseball. Her love of traveling just happens to be my very first and one of my strongest memories.
In recent years, as Grandma got older and was unable to travel, I would look forward to coming home and visiting with her to tell her of the places I had been since we last spoke. Understanding fully why she loved traveling but never realizing that she was likely the one that motivated me to explore so many opportunities the world has to offer.
The older I get, I realize that I will probably never get to see a fraction of what my Grandmother has on her many, many travels. But, I made a decision that forever changed how I value adventure and opportunity. I left my loving parents, friends, and family, and the only town I had ever known to start my own new adventure in the strange and far away land of Texas. My wife and I have since traveled to dozens of states and cities that we never thought we would have an opportunity to…and even on our own adventure to the other side of the world. Hopefully this is only the beginning.
You never know who will influence you, and in what way, and how a child’s imagination, an adventurous Grandmother and a magnet from New Zealand can open your world.
Someday we will meet again, and I can’t wait to share our stories of adventure together.

Sorry to hear about you loss. It was a joy for me to meet you mother. She seemed like a very fine lady. Our prayers are with you.
Although our visits together were few, I feel fortunate to have spent time with Aunt Harriet creating some warm and lasting memories. One of my favorites is when Aunt Harriet and several other siblings joined in the celebration of my mother,(Dorothy’s) 80th birthday in Las Vegas.
They are together again celebrating eternal life.
They were both dearly loved and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones.
