Obituary

Harry F. French, a long time resident of Washington passed away on February 26, 2012. Harry, who went by the name Tucker, was born in Georgetown on August 25, 1921. He attended Foster High School and Seattle University. When war broke out Tucker enlisted in the Army Air Corp (now Air Force) in 1945 and was a gunner on a B-17. Once honorably discharged he joined the Seattle Police Dept. and served 24 years. After retirement from the Police Dept, he became an officer for the Washington State Gambling Commission. Nine years later, and after a second retirement, he and his wife of 50 years, Carolyn moved to Port Orchard. Tucker suffered a heart attack while living in Port Orchard that forced him and Carolyn to move to assisted living in Federal Way. Carolyn passed away in 1999 and Tucker stayed in Federal way until his passing. He was an up-standing man, who could always be counted on to do the right thing. Tucker is survived by his son Terry and his wife Jeannine and two granddaughters Jamie and Michelle. He will be greatly missed.

Harry was a good friend. He and I were classmates in Class #26 at the Seattle Police Academy in 1952. I also worked with and for Harry in Auto Theft in the mid to late 1960’s. He was a good policeman and a good friend and he will be missed.

Terry;

I remember your dad throwing the ball to the two dogs he had down in front of the home in West Seattle across the street from ours. I remember him as a quiet man, but my father said he was a good man. My mother bowled with your mom for years until your folks moved. I knew your mother much better as we talked all the time when she was out gardening in the three tiered rockery. Your parents passing has brought back many fond memories of the “old neighborhood”

My condolences to you and your family.

I took care of Mr. French for many years as a home health care aide when he lived in Port Orchard. I recall when his wife became ill and they both had to move, which meant that I would no longer be seeing him. I thought about him often these past years, wondering if he was okay. I’m stunned that he lived such a long life and am sad at his passing. He was always very kind to me and was great to take care of. We laughed at Johnny Carson skits and Three Stooges episodes. My sincere condolences to his family and friends at their loss. Rest in peace Harry. Luisb.
