Helen Bernadine Smith

Spent her life serving others. Born February 13, 1923 in Boulder, CO to Cecilia and Earl Shetler, Helen served in the Navy Medical Corps from 1943 to 1945. She graduated with honors in nursing from Hunter College, NY and became an original WWII WAVE serving in the OR at Bainbridge, MD Naval Training Center. In 1947 Helen married Lawrence Dewitt Smith, continued to practice nursing and raised one daughter and 2 grandchildren. She served as Volunteer Coordinator for NW Kidney Foundation, Hancock Fabrics clerk, American Legion Service Girls Commander, VFW Auxiliary member, VA Hospital volunteer and made numerous quilts and hats to benefit veterans. She joined her husband, parents, sister Dorothy Feldman and brother Earl Fravel in heaven on December 13, 2004 following a long battle with congestive heart failure. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Delores Leber, grandson David, granddaughter Kelly and Phillip Bush, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 3:00 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240, Kent. Reception 4:00 at Skyway VFW, 7421 S 126.
