Obituary
Helen Burcham Green
March 2, 1902 – February 18, 2007
I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord. He that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live. Earth to Earth and dust to dust was not spoken of the soul the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Helen was born 02 March 1902 on the south tip of Lake Union at Yale Ave N. She was a twin and the 7th child of Joseph and Rosella Householder Burcham.
Her grandmother and grandfather Lydia Ann Faucett Burcham and James Burcham were co-founders of the “Green Lake United Methodist Church of Seattle” as it is known today, and this is where she attended church as a child.
Helen graduated from the Cowiche, WA High School in the class of 1922, which had become an accredited High School in 1921, and on 13 of Aug 1996 attended the 75th reunion of the high school. She and her twin sister Hazel Stewart were the only ones of their classes attending, all others in their classes had passed on.
She graduated from Healds Business College in San Francisco and worked in the business world until her marriage in 1929 to Robert Carlysle Green, at which time she was working in the County Auditors office of the City of Seattle.
Helen and Bob raised two sons, James Carlysle and Robert Roy, who survived her. She is also survived by James’ wife, Betty and their two children, Jamie and Laurie Edwards Dan; and Robert’s four children, Ted Dawn, Michelle Long, Rob, Cindy Stevens Randy; and six great grandchildren: Tony Long, Nicky Edwards, Megan and Danielle Stevens, and Scout and Tyler Green. Bob passed away 24 April 1976.
Helen was active in the Mothers Club of the Boy Scouts of America, Parent Teachers Association, The Lady Stiriling Chapter of DAR, The Mayflower Society and Colonial Dames XVII Century.
Helen and her husband Bob were baptized in the LDS church the 20th of December 1969. They attended the church at 102 North 132nd ever since baptism, and were in the Highlands Ward of the Shoreline Stake. Helen later moved in with her son Jim in 2002 and started attending the Bothell 1st Ward, Bothell Stake.
Helen was among those called to work in the LDS Library when it first opened and in her 4th year was called to work on the Extraction program for 15 months. She attended many classes in genealogy and went to a week’s seminar at BYU University, Provo, UT to further her knowledge. In 1995 she and her daughter-in-law, Betty Rae Green published her genealogy book entitled “BURCHAM, HOUSEHOLDER, GREEN AND STEWART”. Helen continued on with her genealogy work right up to the last and completed the supplement to the above genealogy.
Helen loved learning. She read every day, often studying her Scrabble dictionary for new words to confound her opponents or reading about the Presidents of the United States. She spent time on her computer emailing countless friends and relatives and she sometimes searched the Internet for information about her church or another subject. She read the newspaper every day and always found facts about the world to discuss with those around her.
She loved to cook and made meatloaf and baked potatoes for her family four days before she died.
She was meticulous with her appearance and always dressed with style. Her nails were always polished to perfection. She was quick to laugh and she loved to give advice and shared her wisdom with friends and family. She loved her church and touched many lives there. Those who knew her were smitten by her love of life. She was loved and admired by all.
