Obituary
Helen Burkland was born in Butte, Montana on Feb. 2, 1909 to Mary and Joseph Markovich. She migrated to Seattle in the 1920’s. In 1948 Helen married Art Burkland and in 1950 they adopted Arthel to complete their family. Art preceded Helen to heaven in 1962, where they were reunited last Wednesday when Helen passed away at the age of 95.
Helen was a tremendously loved mother and will be greatly missed by all, especially by her daughter Arthel Burkland of Bellevue and nephew Jim Markovich of Des Moines. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law George T. and Martha Markovich of Des Moines, the five of whom had lunch together every Sunday, her sister-in-law Aida Burkland of Colorado, who wrote a weekly letter religiously since Helen’s first stroke in December 1999, numerous nieces and nephews in Washington, Montana and Colorado, her best friend of 77 years, Madge Dopps of Seattle, as well as many friends made over the years. Helen will be remembered most for her kindness, generosity, loving ways, warm smile and those beautiful blue eyes. She will be truly missed. Arthel would like to thank everyone who called, visited, prayed and will now mourn with us.
