Barb, I saw the notice in the paper and am very sorry to hear about it. Always a difficult time. I called Linda and she said you had called her which I thought you probably had. She said you would be in town. If you want to get together for lunch or dinner call me. 206 363 4316. Marilyn
I saw Helen’s obituary in the Sunday Seattle Times, and believe that she is the same person that I taught first grade with many years ago. There was a Helen Hjelmaa teaching first grade at Showalter Elementary in the South Central District during 1957 – 1960 when I was also a first grade teacher there. If this is the same person, I want to extend my sincere sympathy to her family.
Your mother was a gracious person. and kind to me as I was beginning my second year of teaching.
Sincerely, Joanne Scholen
I am so sorry for you loss. I will always remember Helen coming down the hall in AL3 to visit her sister with such a wonderful smile on her face. I think she must’ve known darn near everyone on the floor. Margaret would always get such a nice smile when she would speak of her sister. I know that Helen will be missed. So many residents have spoken of her, she was taken so soon….
