Helen was one of my Mom’s best friends from the time she worked with Helen at Sears. There was Helen, Mary Martinsen and my Mom, Mary Breed. They were like the three musketeers until my Mom died in February of 2015. When I was planning my wedding in 1972, Helen and Mary M hosted one of my bridal showers at Helen’s home. I always felt Helen was not only my Mom’s friend by my friend as well. She will be missed by many. Love from all of Mary Breed’s family. Alicia

I met Helen at our Weight Watchers meeting in Shoreline. Our leader asked those of us at the meeting if someone would be able to give a ride to Helen to our meeting each week and I volunteered. We rode together each week for months and we established a friendship in the process. We would meet for lunch off and on, and when Helen no longer attended the meetings, we would still meet for an occasional lunch. An exchange of Christmas cards followed and we would also see each other once in a while when Helen was shopping. She usually rode her electric wheelchair up to Fred Meyer despite my telling her I would take her shopping. She was so independent and wanted to do for herself rather than be dependent on my availability, since I was still working full time. I was very fond of Helen and considered her my friend. I will miss her and her spunky spirit and sharp wit. She was a gem.
