Henry (Hank) William McKee passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2017 surrounded by his family at the age of 69.
Hank was born August 6th, 1947 to Henry R and Helen (Bungart) McKee in Chicago, IL. He was the only child born to his parents and spent his early childhood growing up in the West side of Chicago in the Austin district. Hank graduated from Glenbard East High School and shortly after enlisted in the United States Navy. Hank served on the USS Constellation and USS Ranger. During his ten years in the Navy, Hank travelled the world. He performed many functions in the avionics field which prepared him for his post-military career.
After his military service ended in Oak Harbor, WA, Hank moved onto careers in the private sector including Texas Instruments and Cummins which landed him in Texas and Chicago respectively. He eventually accepted a position with Boeing that brought him back to WA State. He was a proud member of SPEEA and worked on various projects, most notably the F-22 FTB (Flying Test Bed) and retired in 2009.
Hank will be remembered for his passion for aeronautics, cycling (completed STP twice) and the Seahawks. He also loved his family and cherished the time they spent together. He was a kind soul that will be greatly missed.
Hank is survived by his loving wife Joan McKee of Federal Way, his four children, Pamela (husband Derek) of Oak Harbor, WA, Matthew of West Memphis, AR, Kenneth (wife Dixie) of Dayton, TX and Tara (wife Melody) of Seattle, WA, and five grandchildren, Danielle, Jacob, CJ, Bailey and Kyan.
Funeral service for Hank McKee will be held at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home in Federal Way on July 29th at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm until time of service. Graveside Memorial at Tahoma National Cemetery on July 31st at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ACLU.
You will be greatly missed by all of us. You were a great father and grandad. You will all be a great part of our lives. We love and miss you very much. Till we all meet again you will always be in our hearts.
II especially remember Hank’s gentle spirit and loving nature. He will always be remembered as an especially giving person of great character.
Hank has been a dear friend and husband to my best friend Joan. When Hank married Joan it was a wonderful day- and they enjoyed so many wonderful adventures- to include visiting me when I was stationed in Germany and in Alaska. Hank was a funny, smart and a full of life guy who was always a joy to have around We shared Military stories, Seahawk updates and a multitude of other great conversations.. I will certainly miss him and am grateful for the times I was able to spend time with him and the joy that he brought to my dear friend Joan’s heart. I pray that God is holding him close.
