Henryetta Ginger Hedrick
Ginger was born on January 28, 1928 in Seattle, Washington, she passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2015. Resided in Kent for 26 years and before that lived in the White Center/Burien area for over 40 years. Survived by her daughters Marie Cragar (Marion), Theda Yandell (Joe); grandchildren, Patricia Locke, Deborah Santjer (Jim), Lisa Retchless (Nathan), Steven Cragar, Jason Yandell; great grandchildren Jimmy Santjer (Katrina), Chelsea Santjer, Christopher Retchless, Shawn Barry; great great grandsons Jaydin and Kyron Santjer. Ginger loved her family and her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She attended many of her grandchildren’s sporting events, always rooting on her grandchildren.
In her career she spent almost 40 years at Sears, weighing and sorting packages in the Mail Order Department until the department closed in the mid-1980s. After the close of the Mail Order Department she went to work at Boeing as a clerk. She retired from Boeing in 1990.
Ginger enjoyed bowling, golfing and travelling. She bowled on teams at White Center Bowl and Kent Bowl even participating in tournaments. She began golfing with friends from Sears when she was in her early 20s, continuing until her health stopped her from being able to golf. Ginger and her husband Red enjoyed travelling in their motorhome and visited many states but liked travelling in Washington the best. They owned a cabin on a lake that was their weekend get-away, enjoying fishing with her family and other outdoor activities.
Ginger was an animal lover always owning a dog, a cat and sometimes a bird. She considered her pets a part of her family.
She was a member of Eastern Star, Amaranth and she was a Past Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel 40. She also enjoyed being involved and helping in organizations. After Ginger retired she joined the Kent Police VIPS and would visit “shut ins,” elderly people that needed assistance. She visited with them, organized the annual Christmas gift giving event and helped find assistance for them. Many of the “shut ins” were younger than her. She also volunteered in the Disability Parking Enforcement program. She was very proud of being a part of VIPS and volunteered in the program for many years.
Ginger liked driving her Cadillac and owned many of them over the years. Many trips were made in her Cadillac to visit relatives and the time was passed by singing funny songs and making up funny stories. Ginger had a sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Red; her brother Carl Christiansen; and parents, Wilhelm Christiansen and Marie Franzia.
A private burial will be held on December 5, 2015 at Washington Memorial Park. There will be a Celebration of Life on December 12, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Kent First Baptist Church, 11420 SE 248th St, Kent, Washington 98030.
