Was very saddened to hear about the passing of Hershel.

Growning up in Wrangell, I always remember his smiling face behind the counter at the Post Office and around town.

Visits to Wrangell in recent years always seemed to find Hershel stopping to take the time to visit on the street.

When my sisters and I brought dad Matt back to Wrangell for a visit, Hershel took the time to come up to the Senior Housing and visit with him.

Hershel will be greatly missed.

One of the few faces that always put a smile on my own when I saw him.

Hershel had such a kind, pleasant and peaceful demeanor. I don’t recall ever seeing him without a gentle smile on his face.

I enjoyed he stopping to ask me, while grocery shopping, which item that I personally preferred of the category that he was looking at.

In giving him my answer, he always chose what I preferred.;-D I always got a kick out of that and too, it was nice that he never felt uncomfortable in asking.

He always left me with a good feeling every time that I saw him, when close and afar.

He will be missed.

God bless he and his family.

I remember Hershel very fondly from my childhood when I was growing up and he was postmaster. The post office was one of my favorite places to go as a little kid. He was always so very nice. As an adult, when I returned to Wrangell to visit, I would occasionally run into him and he would always remember who I am. I was always happy to see him. I remember his kindness and his smiles!

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Our lives were linked with Hershel as he was our dad’s best friend. I cannot remember a time with out Hershel involved. He was there on Christmas Eves to help dad Robert Wickman, Sr.put together toys for us 3 girls. He was a fishing and hunting and fun time partner to dad. Hershel was there for us when we lost dad I was 14 at the time. I know he was just a grief stricken as we were but he helped us and has been always “Uncle Hershel”. When I got married Hershel was the best man for my husband. When my first born was able to stand at the postoffice window and yell “Mershel, please stamp my hands”. Hershel did that from the first time all he could see was the hands until the boy was tall enought to stand in the window and get his stamps. We were there for hershel when he lost his beloved Elouise. He showed us photos of all the good times and hopefully we were a comfort to him. To the end he was always our BEST MAN. we will love and remember him forever

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your father. During this difficult time the Bible is a wonderful source of comfort. We’re promised at Daniel 12:2 that “…there will be many of those asleep in the ground of dust who will wake up…” May this hope bring a measure of comfort to you and your family.
