Obituary
Howard George Nielsen
Howard George Nielsen was born to Andrew and Christina Nielsen in Selma, CA on April 5, 1923. The family moved to North Hollywood, CA, in 1924 where Howard grew up as one of seven children.
Howard served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to enlisting in the Navy as a young man in 1942. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947.
He met the love of his life Pauline Ramsey at a USO in Springfield, MO. Howard and Pauline were married on November 15, 1947, and returned to California after Howard’s discharge from the Navy. They settled in Van Nuys, CA where they raised their daughters Gina and April.
Howard was employed by the US Postal Service. After retiring from the Postal Service, Howard worked for Los Angeles County Parks Department until he retired in 1985. He and Pauline moved to Federal Way, WA in 1988 to be close to their daughters and grandchildren.
Family was very important to Howard and the light of his life were his four grandchildren—Aaron, Niel, Kyle and Kari. An added blessing in his later years were his two great grandsons Josiah and Jairus.
Howard never lost his boyish charm and infectious smile. Strangers were just friends he hadn’t met yet. Howard was deeply loved by his family and they will cherish many wonderful memories of him.
Howard is survived by his two daughters April Alexander and Gina Rosen; four grandchildren Aaron (Jamie) Rosen, Kari Rosen, Nielsen Alexander, and Kyle Alexander; two great-grandchildren Josiah Rosen and Jairus Rosen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery, 37600 Pacific Hwy. S., Federal Way, WA 98023. Following the service, a reception/gathering will be held at Aspen Grove Condominiums Clubhouse, 26213 116th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98030.
