Obituary

Ida Gates, affectionally called be her family as “Nanny”, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 22, 2007. The angels came to escort her soul to heaven at 9:12 am. Ida “Nanny” Gates was born to Ada Bradford and Earlie Skinner on March 20, 1909 in Gilmer, Texas. She had 3 sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister, 3 children, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She lived to be a young 97 ½ years young. She leaves to cherish her memories, her son John Delany Gates; sister Johnny Banks of Seattle, WA; sister Odesa Luckus of Oakland, CA and a host of grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was the Mother of Curry Temple C.M.E. Church and served faithfully until her health did not allow her to. She was honored in January of 1990 for 40 years of service to the missionary society for unselfish works. That was only one of the numerous committees she served on. Visitation will be held Thursday, January, 25, 2007 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm at BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA 206 242-1787. A celebration of going to her heavenly home will be Saturday, January 27, 2007, 11:00 am at Curry Temple CME Church, 172 – 23rd Ave, Seattle WA. Interment at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery, 11111 Aurora Avenue N., Seattle, WA.

Hi John,

I send my condolences. Your mom was always a dear kind person and was always glad to see us on those rear occasions when we came by as we grew up. I know all of us that knew her will miss her. Remember how she used to chase us out of those cherry trees years ago.
