Ineta was the only child of Andrew Evans and Jettie Mae Helena Randon. She was raised by her great grandparents and had an idyllic childhood. This life was interrupted when her great grandfather died and the family estate changed into the hands of her grandfather.

Ineta loved and trusted the Lord. She was a religious woman. Her great grandparents made sure that church was a very big part of her life. At 21, Ineta left Texas and moved to Los Angeles where she started her career as a dietitian at General Hospital. While on vacation in Portland, Ineta decided to stay and worked at Good Samaritan Hospital.

In August 1963, Ineta met and married Hoover Chambliss. They were married for 22 years until the marriage dissolution. She believed Hoover was a good person and he remained her best friend until he passed.

Ineta attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a member and past Matron of the Mt. Rainier Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Washington, Prince Hall Affiliation. Through an acquaintance from her church, she started a business buying a record store, The Little Record Mart. She successfully ran this business for 16 years, and then retired after selling it.

Ineta moved into Hilltop House Retirement Community in 1996. She loved playing Bingo, baking sweet potato pies and cakes. She was an herbalist and excellent seamstress. She enjoyed living at Hilltop House and gaining an extended family. Ineta loved to laugh and have fun. She believed she had a great life and she lived it well.

Ineta took great pride in the historical accounts of the women in her family written in the books titled, I am Annie Mae: An Extraordinary Black Texas Woman in Her Own Words and Black Texas Women: 150 Years of Trial and Triumph.

Offerings in lieu of flowers may be sent to Hilltop House at 1005 Terrace St., Seattle, 98104.

I miss Ineta’s cheerful smile and fun-loving comments. Her generous soul provided many needed donations to the Ballard food bank. I miss her.

I will always remember that sweet voice and that nice bright smile of Ms. Ineta that’s what me and my children would call her. She was a friend-grandmother-and a mom all in one for me and my family she will truly be missed a lot….I know she is smiling down at us.

Ineta and I had a lot of fun “bothering” each other. She will be sorely missed in the Hilltop House community and specifically by me.

She was a great lady, full of fun, uncomplaining and she had a great spirit.
