Obituary
Inez Johnson
Inez Johnson Born Inez Mason, June 4, 1924, to Herbert and Bernice Mason in New Orleans, Louisiana. Life was not easy. She lost her mother at age 5 and her father at age 12. After the death of her mother, her family took over. Grandma Ella, the matriarch of the family worked hard cleaning houses to feed the family. The saying we have now is that it takes a village….Well the village did raise Inez. Her uncles and her mother’s only sister, Leola raised her and her sister Nadean. Inez graduated from Tonalifon High School. Went on to Xavier University to graduate with a teaching degree.
In 1946, her God Mother, who was always in her life, helping to raise her, took her to Seattle, Washington where she attended Edison Technical School where she graduated in secretarial studies. She excelled and worked at Providence Hospital until she married Henry Johnson in 1953.
She is survived by her daughter Arzelia Jones (William) and her son Marlon F. Johnson, 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, her one and only sister Nadean Carny. She leaves many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Her husband preceded her in death in 1981. Her eldest child Samuel E. Simms, preceded her in death in 1997. Granny (Inez), to all had a beautiful personality. All who met her loved her and became part of her family. To some Granny, others Mrs. Johnson, she will be missed.
