Obituary

Irene Esteban Malla

Passed away December 31, 2011 at the amazing age of 101. She was born May 4, 1910 in San Jose, San Nicolas, Pangasinan, Philippines.

Survived by her husband, Eugenio Cara Malla, son Eulogio Malla, daughters Cresencia Del Rosario and Teresita Hora, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her children Benjamin, Crestita and an infant son, siblings Luis, Anastasia, Wenceslao, Mauro and Pedro.

‘Inang’ (which means mother) as she was called by all her family, lived a meager and modest life raising her children in the Philippines while her husband worked the pineapple plantations in Hawaii.  They were reunited in 1968 after 20 years apart when she immigrated to the U.S.  Inang spent much of her days taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and in her spare time enjoyed fishing, clamming, sewing and most of all loved to dance.  On sunny days you would find her tending to her garden and growing vegetables from her native land. She was a simple woman with a strong will and spirit.  She was a mother to us all.

Visitation Friday, January 6, 2012 starting at 2:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd, SeaTac.  Funeral Mass 10:00 AM Saturday, January 7, 2011 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 4205 S. Orcas Street.

watching a peaceful death of a human being reminds us of a falling star; one of a million lights in a vast sky that flares up for a brief moment only to disappear into the endless night forever. ~elisabeth kübler-ross
