Obituary

Ivan James Westergard

August 28, 1924 to April 17, 2007

Ivan was born and raised on a farm in Rigby, Idaho. He was from a large farming family with two sisters and five brothers. He passed away Wednesday in Burien, Washington.

Ivan is survived by his wife Virginia of 59 years, children Kathi and her husband Jeff Taylor, Donald and his wife Laura, Sheila and her husband Vance Stanko; five grandchildren Kelli, Wade, Reid, Brandy and Kristina; six great grandchildren Taylor, Corey, Tyler, Ryan, Catherine and Madeline.

Ivan followed his parents to Bremerton, Washington in 1945. When working at the local Woolworth store in 1948, he met and married Virginia Lou Connelly. They spent their honeymoon in beautiful Colville, north of Spokane.

Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to Seattle and Ivan went work for Model Freight Lines as a local driver. Ivan continued working in the trucking industry for 37 years before retiring from Consolidated Freightways in 1986.

During retirement, Ivan and Virginia enjoyed using their RV to travel with friends and RV Club members in the US and Canada. In his leisure, Ivan enjoyed the writings of Louis L’Amour and other western writers. Western movies and county western music were always favorites of Ivan’s. As a true Westerner at heart, he would say, "Happy trails to you."
