Obituary

James passed on December 3rd at the age of 90 with his family by his side. Jim was married to his wife Barbara for an amazing 62 years. They have 3 children, twins Jeff and Cathy and younger son David.

James was born in Barberton, OH to Valentine Martin and Colin Martin. James attended Wadsworth High School. After school James served 2 years active duty in the Army and 4 years reserves.

James met Barbara Duncan in 1958. They married on August 23, 1959. James and Barb moved to Brimfield where Jim worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass for many years as a maintenance mechanic.

Jim and Barb then moved to Toledo, OH where Jim worked at Phillips Petroleum as a Machinist for 9 years until the plant closed. It was then that Jim and the family moved to Seattle, WA .  Jim’s brothers were in Seattle so off they went to start a new venture in life, He worked for Jorgenson Steel and then on to Boeing until he retired in 1994.

Jim had a passion and love of trains and planes. He belonged to a model train club in Toledo and the Boeing train club in Seattle. Wherever he lived there was a quite an extensive train layout in the basement. Jim also spent many hours helping to restore a 307, B17 and B29 plane with his brother Bob.

Jim also loved his Seattle Seahawks Football games. His son Dave would take him his one beer and watch the game with him during his final months at the Best Care Family Home.

We would like to thank The Best Care Home and his caregivers for all their compassionate care in Jim’s final months. We would like to thank his nurse Kindra and her team for the wonderful care of our father as well.

A special thank you to Jim’s special caregiver Peter. He had a bond with Jim like no other.

To special friend and the sister he never had Val Rufener. Thank you for your help and caring compassion with Jim over the years and to his son Jeff for caring for dad and making it possible for him to be able to stay in his home as long as he did.

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Cathy (Kenny), sons Jeff and David, grandson’s Josh, Keaton, Skylar, Kenny, Cody and 3 great grandson’s Braeden, Wyatt and Barrett. Brother Robert (Pearl) , nephews Todd, Gary (Pam) and niece Laura (Eric), great niece Katie and great nephew Ben.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother (Valentine) father (Colin) brother (John) sister in law (Doris)

A memorial will be held at a later date with family and friends.
