I was so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Jim whenever I worked overtime. He was always upbeat and never flustered if we had an inbound aircraft problem. The “write-up” was always dealt with in a professional manner and the plane left as scheduled. I’m so glad he got a chance to enjoy his retirement for over a decade with all of you. My sincere condolences on your loss. Take care. Eric

People like Jim do not come along very often. He was a genuinely nice man who always had a smile and a wave when he saw you. He always made sure he said goodbye when you left.

Most of my time with Jim was spent at the racetrack, where he was the biggest fan of the Air Time Aviation Team, and his son, Mark. No matter what the outcome of the weekend was, Jim always told us we were doing a great job, and if things did not go well, that “we would get ‘em next time”. For the out of town races, we would all park at “Jim’s Park and Ride”, and Jim would take us to the airport, and pick us up. It did not matter if it was 5:00 in morning, or midnight, he was there and was either wishing us ‘good luck’, or wanting to know all the details of the weekend.

Thinking about Jim reminded me of a situation that happened several years ago, when Jerry Ruth, my wife Kimberly, and I were driving back from a race in Woodburn. I don’t remember what started the conversation, or even what exactly it was about, but let’s just say that there was a ‘spirited’ conversation going on between Kimberly and Jerry. They were talking about people and psychology and such, and it was turning into quite a debate. As things started to get ‘heated’, I started driving faster and faster. There was a risk of getting a ticket, but there was an even greater risk of these two going at it, although looking back, I think they each were having a great time with their ‘debate’. We were getting close to Jerry’s exit, the ‘debate’ was going full bore and I was doing about 100 miles and hour. I thought the best thing I could do is get Jerry out of the car. Just then, they started talking about people who have great attitudes, and who are really great people. They both agreed that Jim was one of those people. They then talked about how great he was. The whole mood went from being ‘heated’ to pleasant, and I slowed down to 80.

Jim had that affect on people.

He made you to realize that no matter what was going on, that he cared about you, and was happy to see you, and that things were going to be OK. I will miss that.

Chris, Mark and Lezlee, Joe, Candice and Jeremy, Dustin and Shelby, Reese, Randy and Alston, our thoughts and prayers are with you. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask.

Rest in Peace and God Speed Jim.

It may be cliche, but so very true of Jim Hentges… one of the nicest men you’d ever have the pleasure to meet. I don’t ever remember seeing Jim without a smile. He truly cared about the well being of whoever he was visiting with. I always got a kick out of listening to Jim and Denise talk shop about their “airline jobs”. And what a great grandad to all the kids. He will be missed by us all.

Chris, Mark and kids: our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My Grandfather was the greatest! He was never short on stories. He left us with a lot of good times. His laugh was one I will never forget. He had a hard time looking at the camera but we found our trick a good old GOOSE did it! We got a great smile. He was such a racing fan he could sit out there all day. He loved to be there. We will never forget the fishing trips and to Blue lake and all his fishing stories. When Dustin, had “Old George” up to the boat and lost him, it was his mission to get him back. Well needless to say Grandpa got him on one of the fishing trips he went on. Now “Old George” is above the fire place he had him stuffed. Grandpa, you will be sadly misted and you were loved my so many. We know your watching over us and you will be in thoughts. We love you and fish on!!!

Love Always!
