Obituary

Jim was born in Seattle on April 19, 1937 to Ruth Hellund and Warren Cook. He died on April 2, 2009, with his wife, Wendy and daughter Siri at his side. Jim was educated at Cascade and John Hay Elementary schools and graduated with honors from Queen Anne High School. He joined the Navel Reserves at 17 years and completed a seven year commitment. He went on to the University of Washington, spent a semester studying in Mexico and completed the university requirements, entering the University of Washington Law School through a special program allowing entrance after completion of three years of college. His family owned Cook’s U-Drive and Jim worked at the family business from very early on through college. Jim enjoyed a successful legal career for 35 years beginning with private practice with Johnson Jonson & Inslee, moving on to Burlington Northern, then to Sherwood and Roberts, Glacier Park and Pacific First Bank all as Corporate Counsel. Jim is survived by his wife Wendy, to whom he was married for 40 years, his children Siri Schons Leo and Blaine Cook Rahel; 2 grandchildren, 3 sisters and 13 nieces and nephews. Jim’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Ray’s Boathouse, 12:30pm. Remembrances may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and Burn Centers.
