Obituary

Jan (Budnick) WOJKE

of Kirkland passed on to a better place on February 19 due to complications from breast cancer treatment.

She was born March 11, 1947, in Huntington, West Virginia. Her family moved to Bellevue in the early 1950s, where she grew up and graduated from Bellevue High School in 1965.  She spent summers visiting her grandparents in Lodi, CA, where she met her husband Kurt Wojke, also in 1965. They spent their early married years in Bellevue, but later moved to Lodi where they lived for more than 20 years and raised their son. Jan was very active in church life and loved to sing. She attended Century Assembly Church for 10 years, and Bethel Open Bible Church for another 10 years where she forged many lasting friendships. While attending Bethel Church she was part of a country gospel band called Harvest Time, and later a gospel quartet called Morning Light. Jan preformed at churches, prisons, fairs and to the general public. When Jan moved back to the State of Washington in the early 90’s she was actively involved with the Eastside Salvation Army and joined a band called Heads Up. The band’s ministry focused on prisoners, homeless and the elderly. Jan had a passion for witnessing and sharing her faith. She worked many years in retail, specializing in cosmetics. Between 1991 and 2002 Jan worked at Overlake Sears, Rose Hill Walgreens and Gottschalks at the Crossroads Mall in Bellevue. Jan loved cats and was very fond of anything having to do with them.

She leaves behind Lilly and Camille. Jan is survived by her husband of 46 years Kurt Wojke, son, Jim (Katie) Wojke, and sister, Ann (Victor) Urvina; cousins Bill (Sharon) Budnick, of Branson, MO, and Judy Cole of Lodi, CA; as well as 5 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Elsie Budnick.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 25th at Bonney Watson’s Washington Memorial Park, 16445 International Blvd. SeaTac, WA 98188.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Overlake Hospital Foundation for the purpose of supporting cancer care.

This is what I would have said about Jan:

Many people come in our life, some pass by, others stay and others get in your heart. Jan was the person that stays dear in my hearth. She has a positive energy that radiates to everyone around her with a sense of good humor, and a big smile. Her father way to Haven, and mine and many others, was paved by her spiritual influence. Jan, this year I will get a fuchsia plant from the nursery you liked. You say that J. was an angel voice for you, but you were an angel in our life. There is believed that people that died on a holy day go straight to Heaven, it is the day when the doors are open and God takes the one that deserve it, strait to Him. And you ascended into Haven, on the early Sunday morning. We will miss you. May you be remembered for many years to come. May God forgive your sins, and may your soul rest in peace.
