Mrs. Sivertson was my 1st grade teacher, in College Place, Washington — a mere 50 years ago. Jane Todorovich was my maiden name.
I loved Mrs. Sivertson!
Author Robert Fulghum published a book in the late 1980s entitled “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.” The title of his book resonated with me — even though I had skipped kindergarten in the 1950s, and started school in 1st grade with Mrs. Sivertson as my teacher. I am proud to say that I was one of her students and she taught me virtually everything I needed to know to make my way in the world.
I loved her and I am happy to know that she lived a long life — even though it is never long enough.
Having lived in western Washington since 1972, I was astonished to read her obituary in The News Tribune, in Tacoma, early this morning. Her name immediately caught my attention. I only wish I had known she was nearby in recent years and I would have certainly gone to visit her.
With loving thoughts of remembrance, her legacy lives on in all of us who were touched by her through giving us our start on the path of education.
What a blessing it was to have her as my first teacher!

Art and Family, I have so many fond memories of Jane. She was such a good friend and we traveled many miles together for conventions…Delta Kappa Gamma and FWEA. Those were the days! I know each of you will miss her and cherish her memory just as I will. Art, I will be in touch with you soon.
