Obituary
Janice Montgomery Skoglund born May 11th, 1940, passed away in her sleep the morning of May 20th, 2014. She is survived by her husband Rodney Skoglund of Normandy Park, whom she has been married to for over 50 years; children Paul Skoglund (and wife Liz) of Bellevue, Susie Young (and husband Brian and their two daughters, Abbie and Zoe) of Portland, and Scott Skoglund of Seattle; as well as by her brother Mack Graham Montgomery of Rome. Janice was born in Rome, Georgia to Paul Hooper Montgomery and Kathleen Montgomery (Graham). Her family moved to Columbia, South Carolina when she was 6 years old and remained there until her senior year of high school when her family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Janice graduated from Montgomery Blair High School (at the same time as Rod) in 1958, 2nd in her class. While both attending the University of Maryland, Janice majored in English, worked as the Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook, was a member of Alpha Omega Pi Sorority, and started dating Rod. Shortly after graduation she was recruited by IBM where she worked as a computer programmer and wrote one of the first computer programs for the National Institutes of Health. Janice and Rod married, June 26th, 1973. Her career then led her to work with Computer Usage Company in Baltimore where she wrote programs for the State of Maryland. In 1966, Janice and Rod moved to Nashville, Tennessee where their first son, Paul, was born and followed two years later by his sister Susie. In 1970, the family relocated to Seattle, Washington. Scott was born shortly after the move. In 1973, the family settled in the Seattle suburb of Normandy Park. Janice enjoyed a wide variety of crafts but especially enjoyed quilting. She was an active member of Quilters Anonymous and Three Tree Quilters for many years. She had a high regard for education and served many causes that fostered its development within the community. The family and Janice wish to thank all the friends, family, and caregivers that have been so thoughtful, helpful and patient under often difficult circumstances. In lieu of flower, please give to a charity of your choice, pick up some litter, and pull some weeds. Janice wished that there be no memorial service, but a celebration of her life will occur this summer. The family will provide details on Facebook.

So sorry to hear about Janice. I have memories of long ago with her, Mack, Kathleen & Hooper. It’s true what they say about life is too short. Time goes by quickly. Wish I could see y’all. Know this is hard but take care of yourselves during this time of grieving. Keep in touch & God bless.

I don’t know what prompted me to Google Jan and I am so sorry about what I found. Jan and I worked together all those years back at Computer Usage Company (CUC) in Baltimore and were good friends. I visited once in Nashville and my husband and I visited once in Seattle where Rod grilled some wonderful salmon for us. I have many fond memories of Jan and am so sorry to hear that she is gone. My best to Rod.
