Obituary

Jean Armstrong was born February 8, 1925, in Seattle Washington, and lived with her loving parents Calvin and Virgil Mary Armstrong on south Judkins Street in south Seattle. Jean attended Colman Elementary School. Later, around 1939, the Armstrongs purchased 15 acres of farmland in the country and moved to Kirkland, Washington to build their farm home. They raised cows, chickens, pigs, ducks and geese on their farm. The cows and pigs were slaughtered for meat and poultry and eggs were sold in town which all provided a living for the family. After graduating from the 8th grade at Coleman, Jean attended Bellevue High School.

Jean’s parents encouraged her to participate in recitals at an early age; she would sing and recite poems. Jean loved to sew and cook. Learning her homemaker skills from her mother, she made country cooked meals, churned butter, baked pies and cakes and made cookies. As a wife, homemaker and mother later in life, she was always in the kitchen she loved to cook for her husband and children and she enjoyed sitting and talking with them while eating. She just loved being together, laughing, talking and sharing with her family.

February 14, 1943, Jean married James Bell and they had three beautiful children Virgil Jean, Sandra Marie and Calvin Hampton (deceased).

Jean’s first marriage ended and she was re-married May 29, 1948 to Robert Leandrew Hills. They had five more beautiful children, Robert Eugene, Zebedee Willis, Queena Ann, John Willis and Jesse Lee (deceased). However, on October 9, 1999, Jean’s husband, Robert, suffering Alzheimer’s, left their Talbot Hill home on foot, leaving Jean a widower.

Jean suffered a stroke on March 24, 2012, which affected her right side; she could no longer walk nor have the use of her right arm or hand. Jean suffered a lot of pain in her right hip and legs and other critical symptoms began occurring and progressed in her body. After having her third blood transfusion because of anemia, another would possibly do more harm than good and she was told by her doctor that without treatment she would only have weeks to live. Jean was tired of all they had put her through. “No more” she said, so she refused all medical treatment. After 32 days of Hospice Care in the home of her daughter, Queena and son-in-law, David, on Friday, May 31, at 9:11pm, Jean peacefully passed away to be with our wonderful Heavenly Father.  No more pain, no more tears, she entered into the joys of the LORD and is now in Heaven for all eternity loving Yahweh, praising and worshipping Him along with her family and all that have gone before her!

Jean is survived by six children of eight: three daughters, Virgil Jean, Sandra Marie and Queena Ann; three sons, Robert Eugene, Zebedee Willis and John Willis; four nephews, Robbie, William, Clifford and David; two nieces, Ana and Rena; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-Great grandson; and many friends.

Jean’s legacy is one of honesty and honor. She was a loving, passionate, caring, and understanding woman of God who displayed many attributes of His abundant grace and love. We will miss her, yet we have that blessed hope to see her again as we press on, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!

We know that she is enjoying talking with Jesus and those who have gone before her to heaven. She has graduated this life!!! However, we will certainly miss her loving kindness and spirit that she genuanly gave to all that she met. Our prayers will be for all those who feel as we do and for all of us to be looking eagerly for the time when we will be all together again in paradise!!! Amen.

My sweet grandmother, I can hear her laugh in my head! If I could heare it just one more time, I would be satisfied. It’s selfish of me to want you back on this earth but I’m at peace knowing you’re celebrating in heaven. Reunited with your loved ones and watching over us all. You were the example of love and I will carry that with me and continue to apply that to my own life. To my family, I love you all! Let’s continue to be examples of what our grandmother was, LOVE.
