Beloved mother of Beverly Gleeson, mother-in-law of Frank Jerry Gleeson MD, grandmother of Tamara Smith and her husband Sean Smith, great-grandmother of Alexander Smith, and loving companion of Herb Huffman and a 60 year resident of Des Moines died in a tragic car accident at the Des Moines Marina on June 20th 2008.
Jean was raised in the Seattle area and graduated from Cleveland High School. While visiting her parents in Sitka, Alaska, she met and fell in love with her future husband Hap Hanson. Two weeks later they married. Hap and Jean were happily married for fifty-nine years living in Fort Shaw, Montana, Seattle, Pelican and Seward, Alaska. Together they worked in the fish industry, and eventually started a successful fish brokerage company, Great Pacific Seafoods.
Hap preceded Jean in death in 2001 after battling cancer. In the 7 years following Hap’s death, Jean was blessed with her second love, Herb Huffman, who brought a light to her life again and to the entire family.

Jean was a wonderfull step-great-grandmother to me and I will miss her.
We are so deeply saddened by the news of Jean’s passing. We were so blessed to have Jean and Hap as our neighbor when we were living on 26th street. We are unable to attend Jean’s service on Sunday but hold you close in our thoughts and prayers.

I was so sorry to have read of Jean’s passing. The last time I saw Jean was a couple years ago at my mom and dad’s 60th wedding anniversary party and I had such a wonderful time visiting with Jean & Herb. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.
