JEFFREY ALLEN DAVIS

Feb. 2nd, 1953 – Nov. 14th, 2015

Jeffrey Allen Davis, long-time resident of Camano Island and humanitarian for all living creatures, died last Saturday night in a valiant struggle with cancer. He was 62 years old. Sometimes soft-spoken, definitely quick-witted, and always railing against the excesses of corporate greed and hopelessness of institutional indifference. Jeffrey Davis never looked the part of a hopeless romantic.

In the final days of his life, he revealed a much deeper level of his psyche. His hidden quasi-Jungian persona surfaced during his Agatha Christie-like pursuit of his long held desire to teach people the importance to live as a community infused with love for ourselves and fellow beings. Rather, he was a committed advocate providing a voice for the voiceless; providing strength for the defenseless; and caring for the forgotten.

Sadly, his protracted mission ended late Saturday night, November 14th, 2015, when he finally succumbed from the ravages of cancer. Yet even in certain defeat, he courageously clung to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. But rather, it’s a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan.

When asked about the loss of his brother and best friend, his older brother, Gary Davis, described his brother as a changed man in the last days of his life. “Things were clearer for him than ever,” the older brother noted. He said that Jeff felt that if you want to improve, you need to be content to be thought foolish and quixotic. Yet he never wavered in his principled belief that we are all worthy, whether or not we succeed at things in life. We all have purpose.

Jeffrey intrinsically knew the benefits of humility and concluded that if we are to live life in harmony with the universe, we must all possess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call “fatum”, what we currently refer to as “destiny”.

Jeffrey Davis is survived by his older brother, Gary Davis, and loving sister-in-law, Myonghee Kim; his ne’er-do-well younger brother, Kevin Davis, and his mother, Kathryn Lafean. He is preceded in death by his beloved father, Perry Davis, who died in 2010. Jeff was born on February 2nd, 1953, in Atascadero, California and died in Seattle, Washington. He leaves two children, Julian and Eliott, and a lifetime of personal accomplishments to fill a book.

Between birth and death, what he was able to accomplish in the middle was legion. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion which will forever define his life. He lived life passionately and independently, and for those who were lucky to have known him, they are blessed.
