Obituary
Jerry cross was born in Des Moines June 23, 1931 to Della and Frank
Cross. He grew up with one sister and four older brothers.
He joined the marines in 1953 and proudly served in the Korean War. Shortly after his service he met the one true love of his life Betty Anne Smythe. They married and started a family with there first child being Sherry, Bryan and Diana were soon to follow. Jerry was in the construction industry for most of his life having his own very successful construction company for more than 30years. He spent many years working in the greater southcenter area. I think the first thing that comes to mind when you think of jerry is him running some kind of construction equipment from backhoes to bulldozers and I know that is where he loved to be. Jerry had such a passion for his work, which was key to how successful he became. He had a vast knowledge and shared it with anyone that asked. Jerry was a wonderful provider for his family. Enabling them to enjoy many of the nicer things in life. He built 3 beautiful homes for his family, the last one being where the family grew up. He could build anything, fix anything, and was always willing to help anyone out that couldn’t do it themselves. He was a very generous, kind, funny man and always teasing. He built tire swings for his grandkids among many other things that made it fun for them to be at the house. There were many milestones in the last few years of his life, his oldest daughter Sherry turned 50, his oldest granddaughter Andrea married. AMAZEINGLY SO, his son Bryan did as well. He had his first great grandchild Logan, he had two grandchildren Nick and Dannnielle attending universities, and another grandson Ryan studying to become a police officer. Jerry spent the last few years taking care of his wife Betty and when he could no longer do that himself he made certain that his wife was taken care of at home where they could be together. He was a wonderful gracious man that everyone liked and appreciated and I just hope he knew how special and very important he was to our family and to so many more.
Jerry passed on June 1, 2008 in Renton and will be dearly missed by all.
Dad,
Thought you would always be there. We miss you so much and think of you so often. I have spent so much time over at the house lately, feeling kind of lost and just needing to be there. Thank you for giving us such a great childhood and so very many funny, happy, silly, great memories.
Love you always Dad
Diana
