Jerry TALMAGE
1/31/1930-10/11/09
Gerald DeWitt Talmage grew up and was educated in West Seattle. As an adult he served our country in the Naval Reserves and worked for Boeing.
His lifelong work and love was his barber shop in Burien. He had faithful customers and made many friends over his 50 yr. career. He died peacefully in his home adjacent his barber shop. He is survived by his son, Jay, daughter in law, Joni and beloved granddaughters, Hannah and Lulu Talmage.
His funeral service will be on 10/24/09 at the Bonney-Watson funeral home in Burien, WA. at 10:30 A.M.
We welcome you to celebrate his life with us at that time.
Jerry was my brother-in-law & I have fond memories of him. He married my sister Pat when I was a young girl. He rescued me from a scary situation once for which I will always be very thankful to him!
I remember how much he loved his Mom and how we visited her and her Boston Terriers and what fun we had!
I also remember coming to Burien with my Mom to stay with Pat and Jerry. While we enjoyed the 25 cent movie matinee at the Burien Theater across the street from the Talmage home, Jerry would stay home and “Cut Hair”. Jerry was a hard worker, dedicated to his profession.
I also remember how much he loved his son Jay, Jay’s beautiful wife Joni and their two wonderful daughers, Hannah and Lulu. They were his pride and joy. No one saw Jerry without hearing an update of Jay & his family.
I will always remember Jerry fondly…
I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Jay,Joni,Hannah,Lulu and Pat. I know it is a difficult time. However the sorrow will pass and all the wonderful memories you all share will replace the sadness.
We are so sorry for your loss, you are in our thoughts and prayers, i wish we could have been at the service, we will talk to you soon, The Stedham Family
We send our love and condolences to Jay,Joni, Hannah, Lulu and Pat.

Dear Jay, Joni, Girls and Pat,
I know that “Dad” and “Grandpa” will be missed. Being a friend and grandfather seemed to be very important to him. The love he shared with his family will last forever. I am sorry that I will not be there Saturday. My thoughts are with you all.
Love, Cousin Suzy
I know he will rest in peace. He will be greatly missed as I walked past his home/shop every day and I live on 9th and 154th behind Ronnie’s market. No one will keep up his place like he did rain, snow, whatever. May the family know my prayers are with you in this difficult time…God bless you.
He was my friend and barber from the 60’s. The best to his family.
To Jay and family, may God give you peace and comfort through this time. I was deeply saddened to learn of Jerry’s passing. He was my friend. I was 5 when my grandma began walking me up to Jerry’s for a “regular” haircut. I got older, my hair got longer, and we finaly moved out of the area. Anytime I was near I’d stop to catch up. For the last ten years my job brought me to Jerry’s shop every week. Sharing our lives and obsevations with each other was like an oasis in the desert. His good-natured warmth and humanity radiated from him. Burien has gone through a lot of changes the last fifty years, but Jerry never did. To me he is burien. He was my friend
To Jay and Joni and family,
Our fond friendship with Jerry goes back more than 25 years with hair cuts at the Barbar Shop to the Highline Fitness & Swim Club, where he spent many days swimming.Even on those days the top would blow off and the weather was ice cold.Jerry and a few brave friends would show up to swim.We called them our Polar Bear Club Members.Sharing news of Burien, his hiking, bike riding trips. The news of two wonderful Granddaughters he loved and was so proud of.Jerry would spread his wonderful smile around Burien on his bike rides, We will miss seeing him out and about, miss the stories as those from the Barbar Shop will. What a wonderful man we have lost for now.Picking up at a later time and place we love you Jerry.
I had just turned twelve when Jerry started cutting my hair — that was close to fifty years ago. And every time I came in, Jerry would tell me about his son who attended the same schools I did, some torn down decades ago and eventually about his son’s family, usually showing me pictures and bragging about Jay, Joni, and of course his precious granddaughters. Jerry loved his family SO much that I’d joke with him about it — but it was a very real, very strong love. I gor the reports as the girls were brought back to America, and watched them grow up through Jerry’s stories and photos.
I grieve along with his family. Jerry was a part of my childhood, and of my life.
God Bless you, Jerry. You not only cut my hair; you enriched my life.
Dear Jay and Family, I am sorry for the loss of your father. I know you will miss him, but will have good memories.
Helen
My condolences to Jerry’s family. My thoughts are with you in this trying time.
Jerry will be missed. He brought smiles to us whenever he came in to our office. He loved his grand daughters Hannah & Lulu and would share there photos as they grew up. He loved spending time with his son, daughter in law and grand daughters. We will miss him. He was a very special soul.
Wanted to share my deepest sympathy with the Talmage family. Jerry, I’ve known over 25 years. He was such an optimist. Loved nature and people and gave my son his first haircut and for some years after. I loved seeing him around, riding his bike, our many, many chats, he was a ray of sunshine and left his mark on the many friends he made. ADORED HIS SON & wife, and grandkids, spoke of them so often. I will so miss Jerry. God Bless Him for all the kindnesses he did in his life. :
Try not to grieve that he died, rather rejoice that he lived.
Good bye Jerry, perhaps I will write that book.

Our condolences to Pat, Jay and family.
On behalf of the entire crew at Burien Taco Time I want to share our deepest sympathy to the Talmage family. We will miss Jerry coming in for his chili and chips, walking by, biking by, waving at us as we walk back and forth over to Ronnie’s…seeing him every day in some way. He was quite a guy and a great neighbor and we’ll all miss him very much. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
