January 23, 1934 - November 14, 2024

Obituary

JoAnne A. (Eck) Thompson (née Loseth), aged 90, of Des Moines, Washington, passed away on November 14, 2024. She was born on January 23, 1934, in the lovely town of Webster, South Dakota, to parents Edwin and Lillian Loseth. JoAnne was the second oldest among her three siblings: Evelyn, James (Jim), and Dale.

She graduated from Webster High School in 1952. In her childhood, JoAnne cherished singing in her church choir, dancing, ice skating, reading, and spending time with her namesake, Alice, who was like a second mother to her and her siblings. Together, they would hunt for treasures and enjoy each other’s company.

Shortly after graduation, JoAnne married Dennis L. Eck. Their marriage lasted for 24 years, during which they welcomed four wonderful children: Jerald (Jerry), Nancy, Randall (Randy), and William (Billy). They operated a café in Wallace from 1955 to 1957 before moving to Boulevard Park, WA in the late 50’s.

JoAnne later married William E. Thompson, and they shared 11 years together before his passing. During their marriage, they enjoyed sailing around the Puget Sound. JoAnne dedicated many years to bookkeeping, record-keeping, and tax preparation for her career. She had a passion for reading, gardening, and spending quality time with her loved ones.

JoAnne was an active member of the Burien Elks Lodge for many years, where she met her companion Elton (Pete) Peterson. Together for 8 years, before he passed, they traveled extensively and enjoyed cruising, along with a close-knit group of friends from the Elks known as the “Potluck Group.”

As the matriarch of the family, JoAnne was a spirited mother, aunt, companion, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the glue that kept the family together for countless years, always the first person we turned to in overwhelming times or when it was time to celebrate. She was consistently there to provide a shoulder to lean on and offered the warmest, most comforting hugs.

JoAnne is survived by her daughter Nancy, son Randy (Debbie), grandchildren Jeffery, Sarah, Kailee (Eric), Megan (Harry), and Jessica (Johnny). Great-grandchildren Sawyer, Beau, Bailie, Dakota, Ruby, and Leo, along with many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Lillian Loseth, sons Jerry and Billy Eck, sister Evelyn, and brother Jim.
