Obituary
John Edmund McMILLAN
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Edmund McMillan at the age of 85 from cancer. John was a loving and devoted family man for the entire family and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
He was born in Seattle’s Madison Valley on 27 June 1924. He moved with his family at 6 months to Rainier Valley where he grew up with an unwavering zest for life, loyalty to family and friends and responsibility to community. He graduated from Brighton Elementary and Franklin High Schools in Seattle’s Rainier Valley completing his public education in 1941.
After his induction into the Army for World War II he was tested and assigned to an elite unit designed to train him as an engineer during the war and train other engineers after the war. He continued in this program until it was discovered that he had not been to college. He spent the remainder of the war in the Quartermaster Corps of the Army Air Force.
In 1946 he met Jeanne, the love of his life, and started employment with Pacific Telephone, later Pacific Northwest Bell. He built his own home and raised his family on Beacon Hill in Seattle. During this time he was active in Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church and started Boy Scout Troop 214; where he mentored many under privileged boys and young men. ¬After his retirement from Pacific Northwest Bell at the end of 1983, he enjoyed his family and friends. He played golf all over the Seattle area and participated in the Franklin Alumni Tournament through 2008.
He is survived by, Jeanne, his wife of 62 years, daughter Patricia Lindsay, son John H Debbie, granddaughter Tanya J McMillan and extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held at Washington Memorial Park on Tuesday, 22 December 2009 at 2:00 PM.

Dear Jeannie and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss. We remember John at our family get-togethers. Always had something interesting to talk about. And being phone company retiries, we could always find interesting things to talk about on that subject. John is now without pain and I hope that will comfort all of you.
As always,
Pat and Bill

We were sad to read about Johns death and our sympathies go to all your family. We’ll be unable to attend the service because of Milt’s health. We have many great memories of our scouting days.
Our love, Milt, Dee and family
I had the pleasure to work with John in the pac N W Bell days. I did not know him well but he was allways fun and up beat. Me being a younger employee he made a good example on the job. God Bless
