JOHN GORDON TOLTON
Age 85
Passed away on January 5, 2009 to be with his Lord and reunited with his beloved wife Barta. Born August 11th, 1923 in Cedar City, Utah, John Gordon grew up in nearby Beaver in the high mountains of central Utah.
In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served as an officer and pilot earning a Bronze Star for meritorious service near Wessel, Germany in 1945 where he courageously piloted a glider carrying 14 fellow servicemen behind German lines. He returned home after the war and graduated with honors from Brigham Young University where he met the love of his life, Barta Dickson Tolton, from Tacoma, Washington. John moved to Seattle in 1953 to work for the Boeing Company and where he and Barta raised their four children. John continued his service in the Air Force Reserves attaining a rank of Lt Colonel and he retired from Boeing in 1985 after 32 years of service.
In addition to his nine grandchildren, our dearest John Gordon is survived by his brother, Grant Mitchell Tolton of Savannah, Georgia and sister Marylou Merryweather husband Earl Merryweather of Lander, Wyoming; his four children and their spouses: Grant Tolton wife Debbie Tolton of Republic, Washington; Christine Summers, Julie Dickens, Jonathan Tolton wife Mary Desmond.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Lake Burien Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy or Lake Burien Presbyterian Church.
