TO LEONA,
WE’RE VERY SORRY TO HEAR OF JOHN’S DEATH. WE EXTEND OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

Dear Leona,
I was sorry to hear of John’s passing. I thought of him as a model of a Norwegian family man.
I would like to share a memory of one of his jokes that has always inspired me:
When I was a boy, I was over at my best friend Eric’s. I think we were making gunpowder or something. I commneted on a picture of a Viking Longboat that was in the house. The dialogue went like this:
Mike Are those your blood thirsty ancestors?
John – They are harmless Norwegian fishermen.
Mike – What are all those swords and shields and spears for then?
John – To defend against English pirates.
I remember too when surfboards were all the rage. John built boards from fiberglassed plywood. And Eric & I paddled them all over Birch Bay.
Love Mike
Dear Leona,
I’m truly sorry for your loss. I will miss John dearly, hearing his ”Hello!” and ”How are you?” I know he’s moved on to a peaceful and happy place. You are all a wonderful and caring family and now have a strong and loyal angel watching over you.
Love,
Maria Balagot
