Johnny Lee ATCHLEY
Passed away on February 27, 2013 after a battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born in Berkeley, CA on June 9, 1943 to John D. and Mildred Hines Young. Johnny attended Reedley College in Reedley California where she received a degree in Accounting and met Ernest Nathon Atchley. They were married for 49 years at the time of her passing. Johnny and Nathon have one surviving child, Kimberly Beth. When the family lived in Portland, Oregon, Johnny became a volunteer at her daughter’s school and later the Volunteer of the Year for the Portland School District. When the family moved to Washington State, Johnny returned to school attending Highline Community College and received her degree as a Paralegal, and started her second career in law which she retired from at the time of her illness in 2009.
In 1989, Johnny and Nathon bought a nearly 100 year old farmhouse near Poulsbo, WA. There, Johnny enjoyed walking along the 23 acres of woods and meadow that surround the home. One of her passions was food; she loved to cook and tend the garden. She enjoyed watching cooking shows. Johnny was an avid reader who loved a cold war spy novels and mysteries.
Johnny also loved people. Since she commuted from Poulsbo to Seattle daily she took the bus and ferry. There she had her many “Bus Buddies and Ferry Friends”. She loved their company and coffee. She would share stories of her commute. She loved to tell stories and would often share stories of her past with her coworkers.
Johnny was preceded in death by her father John D. Young. Her mother Mildred M. Hines Young, her older sister, Mildred Fay Young Elgart and her daughter Susan Irene Atchley.
She is mourned today by her husband “Nathon” Atchley, her daughter Kimberly Atchley, her youngest sister Anna May Young Stier and numerous friends and family.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 5th at 11am at BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial Funeral Home; 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA. Burial is scheduled to be private.
As I was reading this I could hear her laugh, she will be missed

We looked forward to our retirement – gardening and out-witting the racoons, deer & bears. I miss you Johnny.
Johnny was a wonderful Aunt. She will truly be missed. We will always remember the wonderful trips and singing in the elevator.
