Hello,

I was very sorry to have read about Jose’s passing. None of his family or friends will know me. I will tell you how I came to know Jose, many years ago. I worked with Jose for one year – 1976, at the University of Washington Police Dept, as campus security officers. I was a twenty three year old man wondering what to do with my life, and Jose was a thirty nine year old who had recently retired from the US Navy. We both worked the evening shift, patrolling the UW campus in the wee hours of the night, and Jose attended day classes at SCCC.

We both hit if off very well and became good friends at work. Since Jose was Mexican-American and I was Native American, I suppose we had an affinity for one another. I looked forward to every coffee break we took together on those cold, rainy , winter evenings in 1976. Jose was like an older brother to me and always offered just the right amount of brotherly advice without lecturing. I came to love that deep, resonent tone in his voice, and we could simply sit and talk for hours, about anything. I never saw Jose again after 1976, but I still miss him. He was a great guy.

God be with you, my friend.
