Obituary

Joseph was born, December 6, 1933 in St. Louis, MO where he attended elementary school and one year of high school. The family worshipped a St. James A.M.E. Church.
In 1950 Joe and his mother Lilly Johnson moved to Seattle to be near his older brother R. J. Brown. Joe graduated from Garfield High School in 1952.
Joe joined the U S Air Force which started a 20 year career in the military. He married Ramona Smith and produced four children: Jonathan, Jeffrey, Denise, and Lucretia. Following his discharge, Joe and his family lived for a short time in Kansas coming ‘home’ to Seattle in the mid-70’s. Joe worked in Vehicle Maintenance for Metro of Seattle.
In 1988 Joe was reacquainted with Wilma Harris They were at Garfield together; Wilma was class of ’54. Joe and Wilma married in February 1989.
Joe joined FAME; sang in the Chancellor Choir; faithfully attended Men’s Prayer Band; and was appointed the Pastor’s Steward by Rev. James Oxley
Joe and Wilma traveled extensively – Mexico, Europe, the Holy Land; and also took two 30-day train trips across the United States.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother Lilly Johnson, his brother R. J. Brown, and his sister Fannie Crump.
Joe leaves to mourn his memory: his wife Wilma; children- Jonathan Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson, Denise Gentry, and Lucretia Johnson; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Johnson; nephew Rick Brown; nieces Sherry Johnson and Pamela Johnson; special cousin Betty Harris and a host of cousins and friends.
