Obituary

J. Elizabeth Betty K. LAKE
Daughter of Adolph Kaiser and Josephine Maude Thompson Kaiser, our mother was born in Celle, Germany on July 15, 1909 and died on August 4, 2007. Following her father’s death in 1921, she and her mother and younger sister, Annie Charlotte Lottie Kaiser, spent a cold winter on the Canadian prairies before moving to Victoria, British Columbia. Mom graduated from high school there in 1928 and moved to the United States to attend Oregon State University. She met our father, Morse Bradford Lake, on April 1, 1929 in Seattle and married him four months later. Our mother was a life-long active volunteer. She led a Girl Scout troop before she had children, and eventually served as president of the Totem Girl Scout Council. She campaigned for the United Way of King County, and supported the Ryther Child Center. She participated in Parent Teacher Associations for each of the schools her children attended. She was active in Mt. Baker and View Ridge garden clubs. We remember our mother for her countless volunteer efforts, her extensive travels, and the never-ending stories she told. Our mother is survived by four daughters, Margaret Jo Maggie Stone of Enumclaw; Elizabeth Betsy Cameron Finkel, Barbara Lake Knight, and Sandra Sandy Lake Lambert, all of Seattle; four grandchildren, Phillip Allan Stone of Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho; Karen Stone Thomas of Enumclaw; Rory Douglas Cameron of Seattle; and Ian Bradford Cameron of the San Francisco Bay area; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel Stone Thomas and Lauren Margaret Thomas of Enumclaw; and Sage Bradford Cameron and Bryn Skye Cameron of Seattle. A private memorial will be held, followed by burial next to our father in Shenandoah, Iowa. Remembrances may be made to Totem Girl Scout Council, 601 Valley Street, Seattle, WA 98109. The family has entrusted arrangements to BONNEY-WATSON Capitol Hill, 1732 Broadway Ave., Seattle, WA 206 322-0013.
