Obituary

Mrs. Josephine Jones was born October 1, 1916, in Scotts, Arkansas to the late DeSamuel and Zipporah Robinson. Affectionately known as Josie, she accepted Christ, and was baptized at the age of 12, uniting with the New Eagle Baptist Church in Scotts, Arkansas.

Mrs. Jones moved to Washington State in 1942. She worked at the Bremerton Port of Embarkation and the Boeing Company, as a riveter and buckler, during the Second World War. She met and married Josh W. Jones in Seattle, on January 30, 1948. To this union five children were born. Always an industrious woman, she worked at St Francis Cabrini Hospital as a housekeeper, the Colonial Nursing Home as a Nursing Assistant and retired from American Building Maintenance in 1978, where she was a Janitress and active shop steward for the Service Employees International Union, Local #6. Shortly thereafter, she decided to open Josie’s Kitchen at the corner of 12th and Jackson Street. Her little soul food café was a lucrative business, however, upon the urging of Josh they moved to Moses Lake, Washington in May 1979. Where, her loving husband Josh died on January 31, 1982. Josephine continued to live and work in Eastern Washington until her health failed in August 1998.

Throughout her life, she continued to serve the Lord and her last membership was under the direction of Reverend Charles Dickerson at Galilee Baptist Church in Moses Lake, Washington. Josephine was an active servant, she worked on the Mother Board, Usher Board and an Usher and member of the Tri-State Association, as well as a tireless Missionary, feeding the hungry, going to see about the sick, and visiting those in prison.

She departed this life, February 15, 2005, surrounded by her loving family at Swedish Providence Medical Center.

“The” Mrs. Jones leaves to treasure her memory, six daughters, Hattie Mae of Yakima, Washington, Brenda Ann, Gloria Jean, Esther Mae and Pamila Lee all of Seattle and Althea John of Auburn, Washington. Grandma will always be in my heart reassuring me that I am a strong black young woman. I can’t help but to be proud of my upbringings by ALL of her daughters, which I cherish and cannot wait to pass on to my future children.

I love you grandma!
