I am one of Joyce’s “beading buddies” We’ve been friends for over 10 years.

Joycie, I will miss our Saturday get together’s around your diningroom table…talking, beading & laughing with each other. We will continue to bead together…maybe at my place now and remember you and how much you continue to be a part of the circle.

Thank you for opening up your home to me all those years ago when I needed a friendly face and a place to rest.

Thanks for sharing your YUMMY plums from your yard. I will soon be planting a snip from one of them and watch it grow and remember.

I felt your love and friendship and hope you felt the same from me.

I’ll see you in the Grey Havens -xoxoxo

Love Lori

Dear Joyce,

I miss your phone calls, saying lets meet this Saturday. I long to hear your voice saying, “there”s coffee in the kitchen, go help yourself.” I wear your bracelet u made me, and people ask me about it, and I say it’s from a friend, but won’t go into the details cuz I’ll start to cry. We miss you Joyce, thank you for opening up your house and heart to the beadgroup. Everytime I go to a beadshow, I will feel your presence. I love you Charlene

October 14th was a spectacular day in the northwest. We were experiencing a brief spell of what’s called an Indian Summer. A fresh coating of dew made the early morning sun sparkle on the leaves and glitter on the spider webs spun the night before. The day was unseasonably warm with a cool breeze to perfectly balance the temperature. The sunset was phenominal, with Mt St Helens quietly rumbling in the near distance. It was a day I would easily assess as sheer perfection in my book. It was also the day we were to lose one of our dearest of friends.

I met Joyce four and half years ago when she contacted me about my Tan rabbits. She had seen them at a show and had decided she wanted to work with them. Eventually she worked with all four varieties but Blues always had a special place in her heart. At the 2002 ARBA convention in Peoria, Illinois, it was one of her Blues that won Best of Variety. She was thrilled beyond words when I called back to let her know.

I spoke to Joyce just a week and a half ago. We chatted a while, recollecting the good times at shows and the fun we all had doing potlucks for lunch, chatting Tans and catching up on what had happened inbetween the shows. We enjoyed each others friendship and mutual interest in our wonderful hobby working with Tans. It was a good time in our lives.

Recently I told a friend who also lost a dear rabbit friend thousands of miles away, I sure hope there are Tans in heaven. I hope Joyce’s little rabbit buddies were there to greet her home. It was a privledge to know Joyce Gandalf. I’m going to miss her terribly.

I will miss you Mom. I will always remember the great times we had when I was a child. You were always there for me no matter what. I know that you are in a better place free from pain. I Love you. Your loving son…Steve
