I was surprised and so sorry to learn of your loss. My sympathy, thoughts, and prayers are sent to the Kelby family in this time of the loss of your loved one. Judy never failed to express her love and concern to our family here through cards and telephone calls to us. I will miss her faithfulness in keeping in touch and sharing herself with us. May God meet your every need during this special time. (Your cousin, Sue Thompson at 816-836-5963)

Mrs. Kelby- you were my 5th grade teacher at Coleman Elementary and I want to thank you for the impact you made in my life. Now that I look back, you were a true blessing from GOD and I am thankful to have been your student. It was tough times growing up but you taught us in the 5th grade about the stock market, the German language and we also met Mayor Norm Rice. I remember my classmate got gum tangled in her hair and the nurses solution was to cut her hair. You said NO, don’t you cut that child’s hair! And you used peanut butter to get it out. I was 11. I am now 35 and I have always thought about you over the years. I am saddened you are no longer with us in the flesh but I am happy that your spirit and memory will live on.

Ms Kelby was my teacher at Dearborn Park Elementary – she made an impact on me and will never be forgotten. I had been thinking of her and decided to search her on the internet and found this notice. It is so sad to not be able (as an adult) to thank her for her guidance, love, and support. RIP Ms Kelby you were an amazing and caring teacher that loved her students. Thank you for everything!!!

I was watching a movie about impactful teachers and thought immediately of Judith Kelby. I am so sorry to learn that she passed away. I have always wanted to thank her for giving me some of her gothic novels when I was a fifth grader at Dearborn Park Elementary School. She was the first teacher to really talk to me – praised when I did something well and chastised me when I erred. I learned so much from her, as did my classmates. In fact, I am now an educator because of the difference she made in my life and so many others. Rest in peace, Miss Kelby.
