Obituary
Judith (Judi) Irene Hoff
April 3, 1945 – May 4, 2016
Judi was born in Seattle, WA on April 3, 1945 to her parents Harry & Lois Dunning. She had two sisters, Eileen and Carol Dunning.
Judi graduated from Ballard High School in 1963. She married Robert Hoff shortly thereafter and together they had their daughters, Valerie and Vicki, and adopted their sons, Robert and Keith. When her sister, Carol, suddenly died, leaving behind two children, Angie and Amy – Judi did not hesitate and knew that she needed to step in to finish raising them. She was glad to do it, even though it meant she would not have the retirement she had planned. She knew that God had a plan and she followed it completely. Judi was a very proud grandmother of 10: Larry and Troy Lindsey; Jasmine Hoff; Amandalyn, Kaelyn and Justin Boersema; Alyssa and Eric Breznen; Levi and Connor Maragno.
Judi worked at Ballard Hospital, which was later acquired by Swedish Hospital, from 1979 until she retired early in December 2004 to take care of Angie and Amy. Upon retirement, Judi was a Certified Medical Staff Coordinator and was the Director of Medical Staff Services for Swedish Hospital. Judi also served as President of the Washington Association of Medical Staff Services and was a contributing member of the National Association of Medical Staff Services. She had articles published and was a presenter at several conferences over her tenure. She also was part of the National Association of Female Executives.
While she was a highly qualified and admired professional, she was an even more amazing mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and Christian. God and her family were her top priorities. She always put everyone else first, even if it meant she will “go without”. She always knew in her heart that God would take care of her when she needed it, and He has. She cherished her time with her grandchildren so much, always wanting the best for them and did as much as she could. She would help her grandchildren with homework; she would read to them, play games with them and spoil them as much as possible.
She enjoyed doing family dinners on Sunday, with the extended family all coming over to enjoy each other’s company. We would eat, talk, play pinochle, eat dessert, and then sometimes watch a movie or a sports game on TV. It was a family time that we all cherished and will remember forever.
Judi will be buried next to her sister, Carol Dunning, at Evergreen Washelli. We will have a Memorial Service at 1pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at United Evangelical Free Church located at 1420 NW 80th St. in Seattle with a reception afterwards.
Judi was preceded in death by her parents, Harry & Lois Dunning, and sister, Carol Dunning. Judi is survived by her children Valerie Hoff, Vicki (and Rob) Breznen, Robert Hoff Jr., Keith Hoff, Angie (and Dave) Maragno, and Amy Dunning as well as her sister, Eileen Dunning, and her grandchildren Larry & Troy Lindsey; Jasmine Hoff; Amandalyn, Kaelyn and Justin Boersema; Alyssa and Eric Breznen; Levi and Connor Maragno.
Judi has requested any donations in her honor be made to the United Evangelical Free Church in Seattle.

I remember having one if those extended family dinners at Judi’s. Jim and I were blessed. Judi had a heart of gold towards her family and friends. I know God lives how she parented and loved over each of her family.
We will miss her smile and laugh.

To Judi’s family I’m truly sorry for your loss ~ I was saddened by the news of Judi’s passing. I’ve known Judi for years as my neighbor & friend @ her home on Densmore. Starting back in the 70’s. I was a babysitter to her kids, even during the time before she adopted Bobby & Keith. Even to this day I point out the house next door as Judi’s old house. So I think about her everyay.. Always wishing she still lived there. I remember being around 12 years old going to her house to help her with stuff & many times she had the door opened & music Blasting while she danced around cleaning to Tom Jones “it’s not unusual ” & other hits he made. I would come to the screen door & she would see me there.. She would always say i’m sorry I can’t help it ! I just Love this man !! Forever in my mind Tom Jones & Judi Hoff are there together singing & dancing.. So many fun memories I have of Judi ~ Rest in Heavenly Peace my friend ~ until we meet again .. Love ya ~
Our hearts and prayers go out to your family during this painful time of sorrow and loss. Judi had such strong faith that we all know she enjoying heavens wonders at this very moment.
Praying for you Eileen! I remember Lois and you with great fondness. God is with you in your loss. Your parents and sisters are with he Lord Jesus in His Faher’s house. John 14:1-6
Judi, You will be missed by many of your Family and your Friends. You have been a very good model for your family to follow. You have also been a very good friend to so many. You are loved by so many of us.
To Judi’s family: I first met Judi in Jr. High School,, 7th grade. We hit it off immediately and became best friends through-out Jr Hi and Hi School (until boy friends got in the way, and our contact dropped orr, but did not end). We reconnected off and on through our adult years, and more recently through the magic of e-mail. I am so sorry to hear of her death, words just escape me, what to say other than I know she loved her family and friends so very much. The people she touched are in a much better place because of her.
God bless you Judi, rest well in the arms of Jesus
rest in peace treaty thank you for always making me feel apart of your family it to your family she’s always going to watch over you guys should be in your heartsuntil you see her again in the Heavenly father’s home
I’m heartsick to learn of Judi’s death. She has been my dear and loyal friend since I was thirteen years old. We graduated together from Ballard High School, and she never allowed our friendship to die in spite of the geographical distance between us. She always believed in me, always affirmed and encouraged me. Our conversations were filled with her praise to the God she loved and trusted. She always had a fresh story of His miraculous intervention and provision. I so admired her devotion to her family, and her courage in accepting new responsibilities in spite of her limited health. She was truly a woman of God, and I was so privileged to know her. Thank you for the beautiful tribute in the obituary that captured her character so well. We leave her in t he arms of her Savior.
I am a friend from Judi’s days at North Seattle Alliance Church and particularly spent time with her when she would bring her grandkids into the 3/4 year old Sunday School class I taught. She did love her Lord and her family and was able to express that even when life was not easy. Praying the God of all comfort will speak into your life. I am quite sure that nothing would have delighted her more than her passing from this life into her heavenly home drawing you close to her Lord and each other. Blessings, Donna
I just found out today about Judis passing and I’m so sorry for the family and her friends. I have always been very thankful that she took a chance on me when I first looked for a job and she always said she hired me because “any woman who can raise three teenage daughters on her own can do pretty much anything”. She taught me so much about life besides my job that I’ll never forget her. She was a great mentor and became a friend besides my boss. She was a good person and a good mom always thinking of others before herself and I know she’s happy and at peace. To the family, she’ll always be in your heart and never far away.
