Obituary
April 9, 1925 – Sept. 2, 2022
Julie Ann Joyce Traub, 97 died peacefully at home in Des Moines, Washington on September 2, 2022.
Julie was born in Amery, Wisconsin to Elmer and Julia Hillbery on April 9, 1925. She grew up on a small farm outside Amery alongside her older brother Clifton.
Julie was working in Minneapolis, Minnesota when she met Samuel H. Traub who was attending the University of Minnesota. After Sam’s graduation, they were married in 1952. Sam and Julie relocated to the Puget Sound area in 1954 and raised five children in the Woodmont area of Des Moines. Sam and Julie had 42 wonderful years together.
Julie was energetic, independent and always ready to communicate her opinion. A tall Swedish beauty. Julie was a model in the Twin Cities. She possessed a wonderful, strong voice, believed in equality and liked to drive her car a little bit over the speed limit. Always on the go, she was an early Tupperware dealer and also enjoyed a successful career in real estate. She loved her family and her address book overflowed with friends and loved ones. Julie was a longtime member of Daughters of Norway and Saltwater Unitarian Universalist Church.
Julie simply loved to do everything. She baked, enjoyed her yard and garden, activities at the senior center, favorite shows on PBS and loved to read a good book. Thought nothing of taking up golf again in her late eighties. What she treasured most was time spent eating good food and visiting with loved ones. A wide circle, a lot of food and a lot of love. She supported many causes and tried to make the world a better place.
Julie was predeceased in death by her husband Sam and children Holly and Douglas. Survived by daughter Debbie Latimer and sons Daniel Traub (Corrine), Paul Traub and nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Julie will be held Saturday October 1 at 2:00 pm at Saltwater Unitarian Universalist Church. 25619 14th PL S Des Moines, WA

I rememberJulie well for lively voice and energy over many years at the Saltwater UU Church. It’s been many years since I’ve seen her, but it feels almost like yesterday.
