Obituary

Julita L. Tangalan passed away peacefully on August 17, 2008, in Seattle, Washington. She was born July 29, 1920 in Bauang, La Union, Philippines. Before her marriage and arrival in the United States in 1954, Julita was a college graduate and school teacher. Throughout her life, she was devoted to her family, church, and community. In her church community she was a cub scout den mother, a member of the altar society, a member of the St. Rita’s Guild, and Knights of Columbus. Along with her husband, Silvestre A. Tangalan, Sr. deceased, she actively contributed, cultivated, advised, and nurtured the Filipino community in Seattle. She was First Lady of the Filipino Community of Seattle for 12 yrs when her husband, Silvestre A. Tangalan, Sr. was President. Both were generous benefactors in numerous charities, programs, organizations, and foundations. She is survived by her children: Silvestre Jr, and his wife Susana, Charles, Frances, and Gerard Sr; grandchildren: Gerard Jr., Alain, and Divina; and 1 great grandchild: ‘Vestre’ Tangalan, all of Seattle; sisters: Purita Corpuz, and Olympia Viloria, both of California; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren throughout the U.S., Philippines, Canada, Guam, Australia, and Europe.
