Obituary
Jurl Whitman was born on December 29, 1929, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to the parents of Willie and Haney Bluitt. Her family relocated to Seattle, Washington when she was a child, and it was here where she received her educational training and was baptized at the Mt. Baker Baptist Church of Seattle, WA.
On July 27, 1946, Jurl was united in marriage to Ester Whitman, and to this union were born six children. Jurl worked in various jobs outside the home, including in healthcare, as a cook, and for the Boeing Company. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, music, cooking, and casinos.
Jurl departed this life on June 11, 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings, Carry, Willy, and Billy. She is survived by one sibling, Terry Johnson of Mississippi; her children, Patricia Taylor of Plano, TX; Beverly Smith of Seattle, WA; Phyllis Ruffin of Allen, TX; Gilbert Whitman of Seattle, WA; Jimmie Whitman of Tacoma, WA; and Cynthia Johnny Banks of Tukwila, WA; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.
To the Whitman Family, my sincere and heartfelt condolences are with you all. I pray that you will find peace in knowing that “Mama Whitman” is at rest.
May the peace of God comfort and strengthen you, for His grace is sufficient.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered “come to me. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Granny as I know her will truly be missed. The Lord gives and He takes away….He gives us time with those we love, memories to cherish, and love for each other. He takes away pain and suffering so we do not have to endure long. Granny, I will focus on the gift the Lord has given me…time with you, memories of you, and loving you.

We only knew Jurl as “Mama Whitman” the several times we visited her in her home in Tacoma. She was a delightful and beautiful woman!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with Jimmie, Cathy, Ashlynn and all her family.
