Kal Malone

December 16, 1957 - December 22, 2024

Obituary

Kal Malone, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 22, 2024.

Born to Donald Mac and Carol Malone on December 16, 1957, he is survived by his mother Carol, sister Toni (Duane), brother Bob (Kimberly) and 3 nieces Courtney, Katherine and Jennifer.

Kal graduated from Highline High School in Burien. He then attended college in Springfield, Oregon before graduating from the University of Washington in Seattle. A lifelong learner, Kal’s interests included music, photography, painting, ham radio, fishing and a desire to know and understand how things work.

One year his scuba diving experience allowed him to work with the safety/rescue team during the Seafair hydro races in Seattle. His assignment was to make contact with the hydro driver underwater if the boat flipped. Thankfully it did not happen that year and Kal was proud to have been a part of the team and trained to help if it was necessary.

After owning his own business for many years, Kal switched careers to work at SeaTac airport as a member of the ramp service team for United Airlines. He found great satisfaction there doing a job that he found to be important and fulfilling. His interest in aviation actually started at a young age. He earned his license to fly gliders before he was old enough to get his license to drive a car.

Kal’s sense of humor could take you by surprise sometime. He enjoyed attending Sci-Fi conventions. Costumes were not his thing normally. One year he was on an elevator at the hotel with some non-convention people who were complaining about all the crazy costumes they were seeing in the hotel. Kal listened patiently and agreed that some seemed a little over the top. He himself was dressed in business casual attire with slacks and a nice leather jacket. When he walked out of the elevator the people he had been talking to said, “He’s ONE of them!! “. Kal had burned out the back of the leather jacket and inserted an electric circuit board with the lights blinking. That day he was a cyborg.

Kal was a kind, nice and caring man. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
