Kalliope Caloger
September 27, 1919 - July 12, 2012

Obituary
Kalliope or ‘Kali’, beloved mother, grandmother and dear friend to so many, was born in Smyrna, Turkey on September 27, 1919 and passed away peacefully on July 12, 2012 at the age of 92. She grew up in Hania on the island of Crete and later in Athens where she was a seamstress. She came to Seattle in June 1947 to marry her husband, Michael Caloger. She worked as a seamstress and tailor at Funaro Inc., then at the downtown Nordstrom for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She loved to cook and bake Greek dishes and pastries. Her greatest love, after her family, was the church. Although she never learned to drive, she would faithfully take the bus from her Green Lake home to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption whenever she could. You could always spot her toward the back of the church with her beautiful white hair. She would then dutifully take the bus back downtown where she would stop at McDonald’s for one of her favorite meals – French fries and a Coke! More recently, she would look forward to a weekly fish and chips lunch with her son Ted and grandson Michael. She was a simple but elegant woman who immediately touched all who met her. Her sense of humor, huge smile and heartfelt ‘Thank You’ for everything will be dearly missed. Kalliope and her family want to give a very special thank you to Rodi and Mary at Home Sweet Home, where she lived her last 4½ years, for their love and care.
Kalliope is survived by her only son Ted Michael Caloger and his wife Katri Noid; grandson Michael Caloger; nieces, Pipena Klieros-Mercouriadis and Helen Papageorge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Theodore Caloger in 1989. A Trisagion Service will be held on Sunday, 07/15 at 7:00 pm at BONNEY-WATSON Capitol Hill, 1732 Broadway, Seattle, WA. with viewing starting at 5:00. Funeral Service will be held Monday, 07/16 at 11:00 am at Greek Orthodox of the Assumption, 1804 – 13th Avenue, Seattle, WA. She will be interned at Lakeview Cemetery on Capitol Hill. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption.
I will always remember the beautiful times we had together. You were a tremendous co-worker with me for over 20 years at Nordstrom’s. I consider you a sister and one of my most valued friends. I love you and will keep you in my prayers. May God bless you and keep you in his presence always.
Giselda Forte.
