April 8, 1953 - March 1, 2004

Obituary

Karen J. Cozza, 50, of Federal Way, died Monday, March 1, 2004. She was born April 8, 1953. Karen’s legacy will be one of service. Karen struggled with her health all of her life. Since the day she was born, Karen battled severe health issues and spent numerous hours with doctors and at hospitals. This led her to a calling in healthcare as a registered nurse to serve others as they had helped her, as Karen knew what it was like to be a patient. Her willingness to help others has left a lasting imprint on many, many lives. All of Karen’s family would like to thank the firemen of Federal Way, the staff at St. Francis S.C.U., and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for all their help and support. Karen is survived by her husband Craig, son Marc, daughter Shana, two sisters Debra O’Connell and Dawn Sturner, brother Ryan Dowell, mother Barbara Ronald Dowell, father Eugene O’Connell, two sisters-in-law Susanne Levy and Halli Garnaas, brother-in-law Christopher Cozza, father-in-law Stewart Cozza and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 11:00AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Federal Way. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Services are under the direction of Bonney-Watson Federal Way. For additional information about Karen plese visit the online memorials at bonneywatson.com

I am very sad to learn of Karen’s passing. I have so many fond memories of Karen and her family as my son, David, and Shana were in 4-H together. Karen kept me laughing with her stories of her life’s experiences. I have too many to share here but know that I will continue to hold each one dearly. My sympathy to the family.

My deepest sympathy to all of you. Karen was definitely one of the ‘good guys’. I will miss her wonderful laugh and catching up on old times when she would come back to visit. I am grateful that she cared enough about me to involve herself in my life many years ago. She will be deeply missed forever.

Dear Cozza Family,

Karen was one of the nicest, sweetest people I have ever met. It was my pleasure to meet Karen and frequently have lunch with her and Kitty at Pulmonary Consultants. She and my sister, Kitty, were great friends. I was just lucky enough to meet Karen through my sister.

Karen was always positive, always thinking how to make things better for everyone.

Most of all, I admired and respected each of you because of the way Karen spoke about you. Craig, she loved you more than tongue could tell. She beamed everytime she talked about you, Marc and Shana.

It is my prayer that our God will wrap you in His arms to comfort you and to give you strength. It is so hard being left here when people we love are Home. What a blessing for everyone who knew her because we know she is with her Lord and Savior!

With prayers and blessings,

Juli

I met Karen in Italy and what a good time we had!! We went to Sorrento and shopped until we dropped…went to Pompei and got lost in Naples..Karen shared her love for Marc and Shana and was so happy for Craig’s experiences in Italy and that they were able to share their experiences. Karen touched my life and I will always have those memories of she and I in Italy!

Karen was my sister, my mentor, my confidant and best friend. I will miss her until the day I join her again. She touched, saved and changed many lives. Words cannot explain the void in my soul and in my heart right now, but I am sure Karen will provide me with direction as to how to fill that space and how to make something positive happen out of all this. Karen always found the good, the positive and kept our family upbeat at difficult times. For all the trials and tribulations she was handed, she was almost always positive and more concerned about others than herself. I just hope I can do as well as she did and carry on her legacy. Right now I am remembering all the good times and the special moments we shared together; it brings a smile to my face just as Karen always brought a smile to the faces of the ones she loved. I will miss you forever. I love you; see you in the future.

Your sis, Debbie.
