Obituary
Katherine (Kay) Beamish
Age 92, passed away of natural cause after a brief illness on January 4, 2015. Born Katherine Helen Lapekas on November 28, 1922 in Decatur, MI, she spent her childhood on the family farm. During WWII she and her big sister Mary traveled by train to Palm Beach, FL to seek work, and it was there that she met and married the love of her life, James, (Jim) Beamish. They were married April 11, 1944 until he passed March 15, 2007. They traveled the country with Jim’s Air Force career until he retired at McChord AFB, then spent over 30 years in Sun City, AZ. Kay loved gardening, and always had a “showplace” yard wherever she lived!
She is survived by her son Donald (Venus) of Elma, daughters Sandra (Peter) Lai of Bonney Lake and Nancy (Mark) Asplund of Federal Way, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brother Andrew of Kalamazoo, MI, brother-in-law Ross (Gerry) Beamish of Alpena, MI, and sisters-in-law Lula (Paul) Coutant of Sault Ste. Marie, MI and Ardis Beamish of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by husband Jim, brothers Joe, John, Steve, Luke and Carl, and sister Mary.
At Kay’s request, there will be no funeral service; she will be interred with Jim at Tahoma National Cemetery. The family wishes to extend our heart-felt thanks to the nurses and aides on Liberty Lane at Patriot’s Landing in DuPont, WA, where she spent the last two years of her life. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
