Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Anne Oberg, sadly and unexpectedly, passed away on November 30, 2022. She leaves behind the love of her life, Dennis Oberg, after 53 years of marriage. Daughters Heather Renn (Adam and their son Carson), and Jennifer Oberg (Ryan).  Kathy led a very fulfilling and happy life, sharing love and a smile to all who knew her.

She was born on January 22, 1948, in Oklahoma City. Her parents were Joseph Rogers and Elizabeth Kiefer. Her father was a government employee, which entailed many moves to different states. Eventually, Kathy made her way to Seattle in 1964, where she attended Roosevelt High School. She met Dennis at a dance while attending the UW. They had an instant connection, and their first date was to see “A Man and a Woman”! They were married on May 17, 1969. Kathy was already a great cook and became an avid hiker. One of their favorite activities became backpacking. They especially loved hiking in Eastern Washington when the larch turned. After Dennis received his PhD in 1974, they moved to Long Island, NY. While returning to the west coast in 1975, they took a cross-country road trip of a lifetime; 2 months in their convertible Porsche. They moved to Richland, WA for Dennis’ work and they welcomed baby Heather in 1983. They relocated to Normandy Park, WA in 1985 (Boeing), and they welcomed daughter Jennifer in 1986.

Before kids, Kathy had several jobs of increasing importance: bank teller, bank officer and officer at the Washington power facility. Aside from the full-time duty of being “Mom”, she started working at 5 Corners Nursery in 1997. After they closed, she continued her passion at Furney’s garden center for several years. She loved visiting with customers and working with plants. In 2011, they got a cabin in Cle Elum, WA, where they had some of their best times as of late. She loved the outdoors: the seasons, the turkeys, deer and the complete peacefulness.

Her passions have always been family and gardening! She was damn good at both!

We love and miss her beyond words.
