Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) Nichols Elling

Kathleen was born in Seattle, Washington on February 5, 1958, to Jack and Eunice Nichols, and grew up on Yarrow Point. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1977 and attended the University of Washington, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. While attending the University of Washington, she met her husband Joe Elling.  Kathy and Joe were married on April 3, 1981. She worked at Northwest Administrators from 1981 to 1989. From there she stayed home to pour her passion into caring for her family. They moved to Issaquah in 1990, where Kathy had a leadership role in organizing the first two auctions to help raise funds for Maple Hills Elementary School. She loved to organize elaborate meals, especially the Christmas dinners for 20 or more family members. She took that love and partnered with close friends in a part-time catering business. Tennis was a big part of the family, and it was through tennis Kathy developed cherished friendships. She loved to travel and use her mastery of French to navigate her family through France and Europe. Kathy passed away in peace on March 7, 2021. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Joe; son Andrew, his wife Kimberly and son, Oliver; daughter Christie; brother Tom and his family; sister-in-law, Mary Nichols and her family. Kathy is preceded in death by father and mother, and her brother Jack. Kathleen was buried at Bonney-Watson Cemetery, Sea-Tac Washington. To honor Kathy, the family requests donations be made to FareStart in her name to honor her passion for cooking and giving back to others. The link is https://gofund.me/ab389fa2.
