Obituary
Kay Andrews was born on March 12, 1945 to Simon and Esther Cathey in Great Bend, Kansas. In 1949 her family moved to Newton, KS where she and her siblings resided until they moved to Benton, KS in 1958. Her family also lived in Rose Hill and Derby. After her family settled in Wichita, she attended Wichita South High School. After she married, she moved to Wellington, KS, where she lived for several years before moving to Belle Plaine, KS.
She was employed by Boeing, for 29 years, beginning in Wichita in 1978. She got transferred to the Seattle plant in 1995 and immediately fell in love with the area. She traveled extensively for Boeing both throughout the US and internationally. She had numerous favorite places in Washington, and she delighted in being a fantastic tour guide to her family. She loved travelling, fishing, exploring and site-seeing. Being ever adventurous, she went sky-diving multiple times.
In 1998 she met her future husband Don Andrews while supporting Boeing Programs. Kay and Don were married on July 11, 2007 and lived happily in Ravensdale, WA. Kay passed away on 17 July 2022 from complications from a cancerous brain tumor. Kay is preceded in death by her mother, Esther Williams, her much beloved sister, Sally Snyder and her only son, Matthew Macias. She is survived by her loving husband Don, her adoring daughters, Dana Leach and Debbie Deringer, her brother, Ray Cathey, and nieces, Amy Spitzer and Sarah Winger, and her beloved brother-in-law, Jerry Snyder. She had 5 grandchildren, Adam Amend and Brandon Amend, Krisha Kirk, Melissa Smith and Andrea Wharton who held a special place in her heart. She had 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 3 great-nieces and nephews.
She was a shining spirit that made those around her take notice. She was a loving and passionate soul that made life for those around her a real joy. She will be missed and the world has lost a spirited angel.
