Obituary
Kenneth Gok Louie, aged 83, passed away with his family by his side on September 10, 2018, after a lengthy illness.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Daisy, son Marlon and his wife Jersey, son Warren, and daughter Sandra, her husband Rod and children Adam, Brian and Kristen. He is also survived by his brother Ernest, his wife Karen (children Gene and Suzanne), sister-in-law Jeanie (children Alan, Rita, Gene, Wanda, Paula, and Garland), and his Aunt Helen Lum.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Bruce and Donald.
Ken was born in Canton, China in 1935. He and his family survived the brutality of World War II, and subsequently immigrated to the United States in 1947. He spent his early years in Seattle, working at his family’s grocery store. Kenneth joined the US Army in 1957 and served with distinction across the U.S. and West Germany. Meanwhile he met his beloved wife Daisy and the two were married in December 1959 in New York City.
After the Army, Ken went to work in the retail grocery industry, eventually rising to the level of Store Manager for the Lucky Stores supermarket chain. His professional life revolved around the retail business and continued to work in the industry until his retirement in 1996.
Ken always had a yearning to serve. His dedication to his parents carried through until their passing. He always sought to provide what was right and needed for his family and loved ones, and could be counted on to help out whenever and wherever he was called on. Ken did have his quirks; his passion for hobbies and interests were intense but almost always short-lived, like his ventures into raising tropical fish and oil painting. But those fleeting journeys didn’t define him. Ken was most proud of the homestead that he created for himself and his family, and with how his offspring have carried on his legacy.
